The
Bolden Movie
The
most recent creative endeavor into fleshing out this long forgotten
(by most) legend has been undertaken by Dan Pritzker. Mr. Pritzker
a musician himself has consummated his affinity in his directorial
debut by not merely paying homage but buy laying an extraordinarily
big budget Movie at the feet of this Jazz God he has so come to
admire. This promises to be music to the ears of many Jazz fans
who have lighted candles at the Bolden alter for generations. While
it's merit remains to be seen, the movie should surely bring attention
and further investigation into the life and meaning of Buddy Bolden.
Also, any illumination of the legend of Storyville, the infamous
red light district, promises to be interesting. Storyville played
host not only to the Crescent City's most noted period of prostitution
but also to New Orleans' first generation of jazz men before falling
to decay of disease and crime and being dismantled in 1917.
